RISE UP FOR CHANGE
In September 2020, we occupied the federal square to draw attention to the urgency of the climate crisis - this year it's financial sector's turn. Be ready!
RISE UP FOR CHANGE 2020
For two days, the climate camp on the Bundesplatz was a place of hope for people who believe in a different world. A world in which the needs of people are in focus and not those of banks and corporations. In the middle of the night and in pouring rain, people were evicted that were fighting for net zero by 2030 and a climate-just world - in other words, for a sustainable and inhabitable planet. We were evicted, but that doesn't mean our fight is over! Because we are here to stay!
Here's a little review of the Rise Up 2020:
WHO IS BEHIND THE RISE UP FOR CHANGE
Rise Up for Change is a project supported by various groups and individuals in the Swiss climate movement including Climatestrike Switzerland, Extiction Rebellion, the Collective Climate Justice, the Collectif BreakFree and many others.
RISE UP FOR CHANGE 2021
Evicted does not mean disappeared! This year, we are holding one of the world's biggest climate killers accountable - the financial sector. The Swiss financial sector is responsible for catastrophic climate impacts and human rights violations. Not only private banks like the Credit Suisse and the UBS, but also the Swiss National Bank and other financial institutions invest vast sums in incredibly harmful projects like fossil fuel extraction.
After the debriefing of the Rise Up for Change on the federal square, the alliance has decided to organise another joint civil disobedience action in the summer of 2021. The four movements Extinction Rebellion, Climatestrike, BreakFree and Collective Climate Justice have decided in a process of several months to focus on the climate leverage of the Swiss financial centre and the need for systemic change there. Therefore, between 30 July and 06 August, there will be an action week of civil disobedience on this - you can find the programme here. Get ready, because it's going to be an eventful summer at the Rise up for Change!
